Salt Lake City, Utah
The University of Utah Hockey has received a commitment from Forward Gion Coray for the upcoming 2024-25 season.
Coray was born and raised in Switzerland for most of his childhood. When he turned three years old, his parents put him into sports, ice hockey included. Growing up playing for his local hockey club, SC Rheintal, he saw a division championship as well as a few playoff appearances.
Once he turned 15, academics and hockey became his focus. Coray joined HC Davos, one of the 12 big hockey clubs in Switzerland. After a year of ups and downs, the chance of going to play AAA hockey at a prep school in Canada presented itself. After graduating high school at Canadian International Hockey Academy, he continued his career playing Junior Hockey.
His first team in Juniors was with the Texas Jr. Brahmas in Dallas, Texas. After a successful year, he moved to Provo, Utah to play for the Provo Predators. Coray’s final season of Juniors, he found himself playing for the Potomac Patriots, where his team clinched their ticket to the national championship tournament as well as a division title.
“Coming to the U was an easy choice, the team comes with a school that has unreal academics, great staff that cares about their players, and a great facility. Go Utes!” said Coray.
“Absolutely thrilled to welcome Gion to the Utah hockey family! With his finesse on the ice and sharp hockey IQ, he is a dynamic addition for us upfront. A true playmaker who knows how to light up the net, Gion will deepen our scoring ability and playmaking potential,” said Men’s Division 1 Head Coach Morgan Feenie.
Coray plans to study Business at the U.
Utah Hockey would like to welcome Gion and wish him the absolute best in the upcoming season!
