Utah M2 releases 2026-2027 schedule

The University of Utah Men’s Division 2 (M2) hockey program has released its 2026-2027 regular season schedule.

The Utes are coming off a solid season in 2025-26, but are searching for post season improvements as they enter their sixth season (2021-2026) at the Division 2 level of the American Collegiate Hockey Association.

Utah secured a 25-13 record last season and will be looking to return the Mountain West Collegiate Hockey League Championship Trophy to Salt Lake City and avenge their loss to Montana State in the 2026 ACHA Regional Tournament last February.

Head Coach Nick Fornelius had a very strong but smaller recruiting class this season. With only 6 freshman coming in, it appears the team will be adding depth and high end players this season.

Fornelius recently won the ACHA Western Region Coach of the Year award, plus the ACHA Division 2 National Coach of the Year Award in 2025. “We’ve got a great and challenging schedule this season. We’re looking forward to some great tests for our team both inside and outside our conference,” said Fornelius.

Utah’s kicks off the season with a single game road weekend against in-state rivals Weber State University on September 11th, 2026.

Following the early road game, the Utes will celebrate their home opener by hosting Montana State University, University of Providence, and University of Montana from October 1-3, 2026.

From there, Utah M2 will play a home and home series with Utah Valley University on October 16th and 17th, with the Utes at home on October 17th.

Utah will then have a bye the following weekend on October 23rd and 24th.

The Skatin’ Utes then hits the road North during Halloween weekend to face off against MWCHL rivals Montana State University on October 29th, University of Providence on October 30th, and University of Montana on October 31st.

Upon returning from Big Sky Country, the Utes will prepare for their first trip to Logan, Utah of the year where the Utes will play Utah State University on Thursday, November 5th, followed by a trip to Ogden, Utah to play Weber State on November 7th.

Utah M2’s November will continue with a six game home stand with games versus Utah Valley University on November 13th and and Weber State University on November 14th.

The Annual Beehive Showcase then returns to Salt Lake City from November 19-22nd, with Utah M2 hosting University of New Mexico, Eastern Washington University, Northern Arizona University, and Metro State University. With 16 total teams visiting the State of Sport this week, this tournament will have huge ACHA ranking implications before the Thanksgiving Break.

When the team returns from the Thanksgiving break they have two remaining games before the semester break. The home and home series against Utah State will occur on December 4th and 5th, with the Utes playing at home on December 5th, 2025.

After the holidays, Utah M2 will travel to Denver, Colorado for their second appearance in the Big Mountain Showcase. Opponents for this tournament are Arizona State University on January 15th, Northeastern University on January 16th, University of Colorado on January 17th, and University of California on January 18th.

Upon their return from Big Mountain, the Utes will have just two regular season games remaining on against Weber State and Utah State before tournament season will begin. Utah will host Weber on January 22nd and Utah State on January 23rd.

The following weekend, the Utes will compete in the Annual Wasatch Cup tournament, where the best college team in Utah will be crowned. Utah has won the Wasatch Cup four times since its began in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2020. The tournament will be in Ogden, Utah this year.

Utah will tehn compete in the 2027 Mountain West Collegiate Hockey League Championship the following weekend from February 4-6, 2027. Tournament location will be in Bozeman, Montana

From there, the Utes hope to qualify for the ACHA Regional Tournament from February 19-21, 2027, in Denver, Colorado.
