University of Utah Hockey is proud to announce Hannah Mathews as the next Defensive Coach of the Skatin’ Utes Women’s hockey program.
Coach Mathews originally hails from Michigan and grew up playing ice hockey throughout school. She help her high school team win back-to-back state titles.
After high school, she played four years of ACHA Division 1 hockey at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan. At GVSU, she served as Alternate Captain and helped her team make a National Tournament appearance, advancing to the Semi Finals in 2015.
Mathews graduated from GVSU with a double major in Finance and Marketing in 2015.
Since moving to Utah in 2021, Mathews has followed the women’s hockey program. She says she is “excited to be a part of the successful and growing women’s hockey community in Salt Lake City and at the University of Utah.”
“Hannah is coming to us from a very distinguished ACHA program. She understands the game’s ins and outs. She will be very useful to coaching our defense. I’m also excited that because of her past experience she truly knows the “grind” of the ACHA,” said Women’s Head Coach Rodney Stedt.
Utah Hockey would like to welcome Hannah and wish her the absolute best in the upcoming season!
