Salt Lake City, Utah
The University of Utah Skatin’ Utes (ACHA D2) are coming off their early-season bye and looking to come out swinging in a weekend double-header against in-state opponents Utah Valley University.
The Skatin’ Utes are 2-2 after the break and are prepped and ready to add more checks to the win column.
The M2 team will be in Provo on Friday, October 16, and back at home on the Steiner Ice Sheet on Saturday, October 17.
LAST TIMEOUT
The M2 Utes are coming off a hard-nosed MWCHL triple header against three tough Montana teams. The weekend was a success as the Utes got revenge against Montana State in a 4-2 victory (Game Center) and put on a dominant 4-1 showing against a strong Providence team (Game Center). However, the weekend did not end the way the Utes hoped as they fell to the University of Montana 6-4 (Game Center).
The Utes are fresh after the bye and will look to gain back some early-season momentum.

SCOUTING THE WOLVERINES
The Utah Valley Wolverines are coming off a difficult 2-19 season, but are ready to shift the tide this year with help from a plethora of new faces and new signings. The Wolverines are currently 0-4 and searching for a spark in their offense, having scored only two goals so far this season. After losing two of their three leading scorers from a year ago, Utah Valley will have to look to some newer skaters like Jake Clouse and Aiden Hockett to steer their season in a new direction.
LOOKING INTO THE 2026-27 SEASON
The Utes have looked good in their early season matchups and are ready to compete atop the Mountain West Conference. With early production from returning stars like Cole Turner, Kai Tweeten, and Connor Beers, the Utes have seen great success on both sides of the ice. The main story of the season so far has been the Utes special teams, with the power play scoring four goals in four games, and the penalty kill stopping 84% of opponents’ opportunities.
The M2 rookie Utes have made a huge impact already, with many new faces notching points and making plays all over the ice. Both Brady Bennett and Jim Madden scored their first goals in the red and white during the Utes’ homecoming action. As for this week’s matchup, the Utes had Utah Valley’s number last season, going 5-0 and outscoring the Wolverines 54-6. The Utes will hope to continue their winning streak this weekend as the Wolverines fight for their first win.
