The University of Utah Women’s Division 1 (W1) hockey program has announced their schedule for 2026-2027 regular season.
The Skatin’ Utes will enter their seventh season (2019, 2021-2026) playing at the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) W1 level. The Utes will continue their membership in the Women’s Western Collegiate Hockey League (WWCHL).
After an incredible 18-8-2 record last season, the Skatin’ Utes are still looking for their first WWCHL Conference Championship and their first trip to the ACHA National Tournament this season.
During the off-season, the WWCHL voted to change their post season auto-bid from a post-season tournament winner to a regular season award. This move will make the regular season far more competitive and send the most seasoned WWCHL member team to the 2027 ACHA National Championships in St Louis, Missouri in March.
Head Coach Rodney Stedt has recruited extremely well this season, and will have 8 rookies and 1 transfer joining the team.
“There are truly no games off with this schedule this year. Doesn’t matter if it’s non-conference or conference games, every team will be a challenge. Everyone in the West is so much stronger now, and it really helps our strength of schedule, which helps our rankings,” Coach Stedt mentioned.
Their schedule is packed with 18 games in the Fall and 8 in the spring semester, for a total of 26 regular season games. This includes 12 home games and 14 away games.
The season will open on the road against ACHA W1 powerhouse teams University of Massachusetts, University of Michigan, and Penn State University at the first ever ACHA Fall Faceoff Invitational from September 18-20 in Lake Placid, New York.
The 2026 ACHA Fall Faceoff Invitational will consist of 36 games played over three days and feature six Men’s Division 1 teams, six Men’s Division 2 teams, four Men’s Division 3 teams, as well as four teams each from Women’s Divisions 1 and 2.
The team will then have a bye week before home opening weekend against WWCHL rival Montana State University on October 2nd and 3rd at the Salt Lake City Sports Complex.
Utah will then host University of Arizona on October 17-18, 2026. Arizona will be entering their 3rd season and looks to be a perennial contender in the West. The Wildcats currently play an independent schedule and are not members of the WWCHL.
To close out October, the Skatin’ Utes travel to University of Wyoming for a pair of conference games in Laramie, Wyoming on October 30-31, 2026.
Continuing in WWCHL conference play, the Utes will travel to rival University of Colorado for two extremely valuable conference games at home on November 6th and 7th. These two teams historically rival for the top spot in the regular season WWCHL standings.
Utah W1 then hosts University of New Mexico on November 13-14, 2026. The Lobos are entering their second season in W1 and look to make their mark this season in a very competitive West region.
The Utes then hit the road and travel to Bozeman, Montana, for the final two games against Montana State University on November 20th and 21st.
Utah returns from the Thanksgiving break on Friday, December 4th, and Saturday, December 5th to battle the 2025 and 2026 WWCHL Champions and rival Grand Canyon University for two pivotal conference games on home ice.
After the New Year, Utah W1 hosts University of Colorado and Denver University for the final four games of the season. The University of Colorado series will be on January 22 and 23rd, and Denver University will be on January 29th and 30th. The four game home stand will likely have major conference ramifications for the WWCHL rankings.
On February 4th the Utes travel to Arizona and play the University of Arizona and then Grand Canyon University of February 5th and 6th.
To wrap the regular season, Utah travels to WWCHL rival Colorado State University for their only conference match up of the season and the final regular season games of the season.
