PAC-8 Power Rankings #3
PAC-8 Power Rankings Week #3
Another week is in the books in the PAC-8 which means here’s another edition of the PAC-8 power rankings.
Number in parenthesis is last week’s ranking.
1.(1) Utah Utes (7-3, 4-0 PAC-8) 2nd in Conference
Last Week: 2-0 (Win @ UCLA 20-2, Win @ UCLA 12-0)
This Week: @ Utah St (Fri.), @ BYU (Sat.)
The Utes completely obliterated the Bruins this weekend, outscoring them 32-2 in both contests. Utah has Utah St and BYU this week before they welcome in their biggest PAC-8 rival, Washington.
2.(2) Oregon Ducks (5-1, 5-0 PAC-8) 1st in Conference
Last Week: 1-1 (Loss @ Washington 3-5, Win @ Washington 5-3)
This Week: @ USC (Thurs.), @ USC (Fri.)
Oregon stays status quo after splitting the weekend in Seattle against Washington. Despite the loss, the Ducks stay undefeated thanks to Washington’s schedule (see below). Another big road trip is this week as Oregon heads down south for USC.
3.(3) Washington Huskies (5-3, 0-1 PAC-8) 5th in Conference
Last Week: 1-1 (Win vs Oregon 5-3, Loss vs Oregon 3-5)
This Week: Home vs Cal (Fri.), Home vs Cal (Sat.)
So my apologies in last week’s rankings as I did not know that UW has more than the 12 allowed PAC-8 games on their schedule. That means that the Huskies opened up conference play this weekend and unfortunately for them the only one that counted was the loss to Oregon. The I-5 Cup should be interesting this year as both teams look pretty even. Should be another good matchup this weekend as Cal comes to town.
4.(4) Cal Golden Bears (4-2, 1-2 PAC-8) 4th in Conference
Last Week: Bye Week
This Week: @ Washington (Fri.), @ Washington (Sat.)
The Golden Bears had the week off to rest up for a pair of big games against Washington. A win or two this weekend puts Cal right back near the top of the conference.
5.(5) USC Trojans (4-5, 2-1 PAC-8) 3rd in Conference
Last Week: 2-0 (Forfeit vs Stanford 1-0, Win vs Chapman (D3) 10-3)
This Week: Home vs Oregon (Thurs.), Home vs Oregon (Fri.)
Stanford couldn’t make the trip to USC last week so the Trojans took on D3 foe Chapman and put a working on them. This week should be a tougher test as Oregon comes into town.
6.(7) Washington State Cougars (1-6, 0-6 PAC-8) 7th in Conference
Last Week: Bye Week
This Week: @ UCLA (Fri.), @ UCLA (Sat.)
Wazzu benefits from their bye week along with UCLA’s losses and move up to number 6 in the rankings. The Cougs now travel to California to take on a battered UCLA team.
7.(6) UCLA Bruins (0-6, 0-4 PAC-8) 6th in Conference
Last Week: 0-2 (Loss vs Utah 2-20, Loss vs Utah 0-12)
This Week: vs Washington St (Fri.), vs Washington St (Sat.)
Another rough weekend for the Bruins as Utah rolled in and destroyed them. They’ll look for that first win this weekend against Washington State.
8.(8) Stanford Cardinal (0-7, 0-3 PAC-8) 8th in Conference (On Provisional Status)
Last Week: Did Not Play
This Week: Bye Week
Stanford couldn’t make the trip to LA due to some injuries and lack of players. They’ll have this week off to heal those injuries and get everything taken care of.
