PAC-8 Power Rankings #4
A couple moves in this week’s rankings as UCLA and Washington picked up some conference wins. It will be a big weekend coming up with Utah-UW and USC-UCLA this weekend.
Number in parenthesis is last week’s ranking.
1.(1) #7 Utah Utes (9-3, 4-0 PAC-8) 2nd in Conference
Last Week: 2-0 (Win @ #1 Utah State 6-2, Win @ BYU 8-4)
This Week: Home vs Washington (Fri.), Home vs Washington (Sat.)
It was a huge weekend for the Utes as they knocked off undefeated Utah State and beat rival BYU, both on the road. Utah goes back to the conference schedule this week for an epic matchup of last year’s top two teams in the PAC-8.
2.(2) Oregon Ducks (8-1, 7-0 PAC-8) 1st in Conference
Last Week: 3-0 (Win @ USC 5-3, Win @ USC 4-1, Win @ COC (D3) 3-1)
This Week: @ Western Washington (Fri.), @ Western Washington (Sat.)
The Ducks have got to be pleased with how their season has gone so far. An 8-1 record and perfect conference record has put Oregon on the map and they’re starting to get some national attention. They’ll be on the road again this weekend against D3 foe Western Washington.
3.(3) Washington Huskies (7-3, 2-1 PAC-8) T-3rd in Conference
Last Week: 2-0 (Win vs Cal 10-3, Win vs Cal 5-4)
This Week: @ #7 Utah (Fri.), @ #7 Utah (Sat.)
The Huskies picked up a pair of wins against Cal this weekend to move to 2-1 in the conference. Their next test is a big one as they head to Salt Lake for a pair with Utah in a rematch of last year’s PAC-8 Championship. In all games between these two opponents, the home team has always won.
4.(4) Cal Golden Bears (4-4, 1-4 PAC-8) 6th in Conference
Last Week: 0-2 (Loss @ Washington 3-10, Loss @ Washington 4-5)
This Week: @ UCSB (Fri.), @ UCLA (Sat.), @ UCLA (Sun.)
The Golden Bears hung tough with the Huskies but ended up losing both games to the defending champs. A long weekend is ahead for Cal as they travel to LA for games against UCLA and UC-Santa Barbara.
5.(5) USC Trojans (4-7, 2-3 PAC-8) T-3rd in Conference
Last Week: 0-2 (Loss vs Oregon 3-5, Loss vs Oregon 1-4)
This Week: @ #11 Long Beach St (Thurs.), Home vs UCLA (Fri.)
USC had some great chances but fell just short this weekend against the Ducks. The Trojans will be sure to get up this week as this year’s Crosstown Cup begins Friday against UCLA.
6.(7) UCLA Bruins (2-6, 2-4 PAC-8) T-3rd in Conference
Last Week: 2-0 (Win vs Washington St 8-5, Win vs Washington St 7-2)
This Week: @ USC (Fri.), Home vs Cal (Sat.), Home vs Cal (Sun.)
UCLA rises out of the bottom of the barrel after beating WSU twice last weekend. It will be a long conference weekend as well as they take on USC and Cal for a three game set in LA.
7.(6) Washington State Cougars (1-8, 0-8 PAC-8) 7th in Conference
Last Week: 0-2 (Loss @ UCLA 5-8, Loss @ UCLA 2-7)
This Week: @ Gonzaga (Fri.)
Another rough weekend for the Cougs as they drop to 0-8 in the conference. Just the one game this weekend against Gonzaga, but this one will be intriguing. Not only are the Bulldogs undefeated, but the game will be outdoors at Spokane’s Riverfront Park. It will be Wazzu’s first ever outdoor game.
8.(8) Stanford Cardinal (0-7, 0-3 PAC-8) 8th in Conference (On Provisional Status)
Last Week: Bye Week
This Week: @ #5 San Jose St (Fri.), Home vs Santa Clara (Sun.)
The Cardinal had the week off to rest up for this weekend, as they take on the Spartans and the Broncos.
