September 22, 2017
Salt Lake City, UT
After a successful season opener on the road at Weber State, the Utah Skatin’ Utes now turn their attention to their home opener this weekend as they take on a pair of in-state teams.
On Friday, the Utes welcome the Utah Outliers to the Utah Ice Sheet for an exhibition match that’s sue to be a great matchup. The Utes and Outliers met for the first time in Park City last season, with the Utes picking up a 4-1 win. The Outliers are a junior team that competes in the Western States Hockey League (WSHL) and begin their season next week.
After the exhibition game on Friday, the Utes will host a jam-packed Saturday at the Utah Ice Sheet which features two games including Utah’s home opener.
At 4pm MT the Utes will host their 3rd annual Alumni Game as the best players to ever wear the Utah uniform will make their way back to Salt Lake City to compete in a friendly competition that’s always a sight to see. After the alumni festivities conclude, the Utes open up the home schedule against another in-state rival, this time the Utah State Aggies.
The Utes have won seven straight against the Aggies heading into Saturday night’s contest with their last matchup seeing the Utes hoist the Wasatch Cup for the third straight time last season. The Aggies are 1-0 on the season after beating Weber State last Friday 7-3. The biggest strength for the Aggies will be their power play, as the Aggies scored all seven of their goals on the power play last Friday.
The Utes will also look to improve on their 1-0 win over Weber State last weekend and look to extend their 23-game unbeaten streak against in-state opponents as well. In addition to that streak, the Utes will look to win their home opener for the seventh straight year.
Friday night’s contest against the Utah Outliers will begin at 7:30pm MT. Saturday’s Alumni game will start at 4pm MT with the home opener against Utah State scheduled to start at 7pm MT.
