University of Utah Women’s Division 1 Hockey has received a commitment from Forward Caitlin Bailey for the upcoming 2022-23 season. Caitlin began her love for hockey at 10 years old after participating in multiple sports from gymnastics to softball. She grew up rooting for the Arizona Coyotes, and then later for the US Women’s Olympic Ice Hockey Team, as her role model Lyndsey Fry, an Arizona native, was on the team. After three years of house hockey, Bailey joined Mission Arizona Ice, a co-ed travel team where she played for the next four years. During her last year with Mission, she double-rostered with the Arizona Kachinas. For her final season of youth hockey, she committed fully to the Kachinas 19U and was able to be coached by her previous Mission’s coach. This past season, the Kachinas won their district championship in Dallas, TX and the WGHL championship in Anaheim, CA, which led to their USA Hockey Nationals debut, where they took silver. “I feel very privileged to be joining the University of Utah Women’s Hockey team, and I can’t wait to continue my hockey career as a Ute,” says Bailey. “Caitlin is such a skilled player and her passion and love for the game are obvious when she plays. She’s a strong Center who will make major impacts in our transition out of our defensive zone, as well as in our offensive zone attack,” Women’s Division 1 Head Coach Braeden Yeo said.
