Utah M1 Head Coach Morgan Feenie wins WCHL Coach of the Year

Utah Hockey is thrilled to announce Men’s Division 1 Head Coach Morgan Feenie has been awarded the Western Collegiate Hockey League (WCHL) Coach of the Year for the 2023-2024 season.
Coach Feenie was named Men’s Division 1 Head Coach on October 5, 2020 and has a career record of 44-28-8 in three seasons (2021-22, 2022-23, 2023-24) with Utah, good for a career winning percentage of 60.00%.
Utah Captain Dylan Dix on Coach Feenie’s award, “It’s great to see Morgan receive well earned recognition for what he has been building here at Utah. He is instrumental in our success on the ice from both a recruiting standpoint and the development of our team.”
Coach Feenie lead the Utes to a 16-10-2 regular season record and a birth to the 2023-2024 American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) National Championship in St Louis, Missouri from March 7-12, 2024. The Utes finished the 2023-24 regular season ranked 12th in Nation. This is the first National Tournament birth since the team moved to Division 1 in 2016.
“Being selected as the WCHL Head Coach of the Year is a true honor, made possible by the incredible dedication of my players and the unwavering support of my amazing coaching staff. This recognition is a testament to the teamwork and commitment within our organization,” said Feenie.
The regular season schedule was stacked with the very best of the ACHA, and the Utes capitalized on the opportunity. Guided by Head Coach Feenie the team earned signature wins against #3 Central Oklahoma and #5 University of Nevada Las Vegas. Additionally, he guided the team to a season split against #13 Arizona, a 3-1 record against #17 Grand Canyon and #28 Arizona State, a season split versus #15 Calvin University, overtime decision against #14 Grand Valley State, season sweep of #26 Iowa State and #43 San Diego State.
“Morgan has been invaluable to our program and delivered a National Tournament birth in three short seasons as our Division 1 Head Coach. This award places him confirms he is one of elite coaches in the ACHA. There isn’t a coach more deserving of this award than Head Coach Feenie said, Utah GM AJ Boldan.
The 2023-2024 season has proved once again the WCHL is the top conference in Men’s Division 1 of the ACHA. Six of the ten members of the WCHL earned a birth to Nationals, and the conference ended the regular season with an average ranking of 17.5. The next best average was 28.5 amongst the 9 independent teams of Men’s Division 1. Other Conference ranking averages are 29.1 for the Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League (ESCHL), 29.1 for Midwest College Hockey (MCH), 38.2 for the Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League (GLCHL), 42.6 for the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC), 49.0 for College Hockey Mid-America (CHMA), 50.0 for Eastern Collegiate Hockey Association (ECHA), and 56.0 for the Northeast Collegiate Hockey League (NECHL)
