FORMAT:
2012_ACHA_732x566Four teams from each of the four divisions in the ACHA (Northeast, Southeast, Central, and West) qualify for the tournament. The format for the tournament will be pool play with four teams in each of the four pools. Each team will play all other teams in their pool with the winners of each pool advancing to the national semifinals. All game rosters will allow 22 players to be dressed for the games, 2 or 3 must be goaltenders. Teams only get “one” time-out per game.

Tie-breaking procedures in the event of a tie in pool play are:
A. Head to Head
B. Number of Wins
C. Fewest Goals Allowed (in all games)
D. Goal Differential (in all games)
E. Fewest Penalty Minutes
F. Most Periods Won in Pool Play (determined by +/- in goals)
G. Quickest Goal Recorded on Score Sheet in Pool Play
H. Coin Flip by Commissioner

The four winners in pool play will play each other in the national semifinals, with the winners advancing to the National Championship Game. The winner of that game will be declared the national champion.

Overtime Rules for Pool Play (Days 1, 2, 3): If the game is tied at the end of regulation time, there will be an ice re-surface followed by a 10-minute sudden death overtime period. Full complement of six player’s per-side permitted on ice. Teams will switch ends to start the overtime period. If still tied at the end of the 10-minute overtime period, the game remains a tie (for Pool Play games only). All penalties carry into the overtime periods.

Overtime Rules for Semi’s and Championship Game: If tied at the end of regulation, there will be an ice re-surface followed by 20-minute sudden death overtime period. Ice re-surface will continue for each period after. Full complement of six player’s per-side permitted on ice. Teams will switch ends to start period 4 and continue to switch ends for every period after. All periods are full 20-minute sudden-death. All penalties carry into the overtime periods.
