Salt Lake City, Utah
The University of Utah Hockey has received a commitment from Defense Sophia Geron for the upcoming 2023-24 season.
Sophia grew up watching her brother play hockey at the local rinks. She wanted to follow in his footsteps so she transitioned from youth soccer to hockey, many times being the only girl on co-ed teams.
Geron moved to an all-girls Chicago Fury AAA team who competed in the National Girls Hockey League (NGHL). During Covid, she moved to the Naperville Sabres and went on to win the 2021-22 Northern Illinois Hockey League (NIHL) Championship, Illinois State Championship, and Regionals, and played for the National Championship in Philadelphia, PA.
She attended Plainfield South High School where she played lacrosse and varsity golf all four years and was a member of a student council, French Club, Plainfield South Leadership Corp, National Honors Society, and French Honors Society.
Her hockey career has taken her all over the east and central states, from Boston to Florida, to Nashville and Minnesota and now she is “so excited to begin my college hockey career with Utah hockey!
“Sophia is a player who doesn’t take no for an answer. Don’t let her size fool you, she will win battle after battle easily. She’s very aggressive in the defensive zone and has a great shot from the point in the offensive zone,” said Women’s Division 1 Head Coach Rodney Stedt.
Geron plans to study General Studies at the U.
Utah Hockey would like to welcome Sophia and wish her the absolute best in the upcoming season!
