Salt Lake City, Utah
The University of Utah Women’s Division 1 Hockey has received a commitment from Forward Brenna Westerhaus for the upcoming 2024-25 season.
Westerhaus grew up in Lakeville, Minnesota, and started playing hockey when she was 8 years old. From the moment she put on skates, she loved every minute of it. She played youth in MN from u8s to u15. Her favorite hockey memory from then was scoring the overtime goal in u12s to send her team to state.
She received a scholarship to play and attend Holy Family Catholic High School in Victoria, MN. It was a huge accomplishment being the only freshman on a very competitive varsity team. Westerhaus decided she wanted to play for a bigger school and transferred to Chaska High School in Chaska, MN. She played for the Chaska Chanhassen StormHawks her sophomore year and earned the captain spot her junior year. Senior year she decided she wanted a more competitive style of hockey and had the opportunity to play for the Minnesota IceCougars AAA team.
When Westerhaus is not on the ice, she loves traveling with her family, the beach, and hanging out with her friends.
“Brenna is one of the fastest players I have ever seen. The plays she can make leave people astonished. She loves to set players up and score goals herself. She is a player that when she gets on the ice other players will be scared,” said Women’s Division 1 Head Coach Rodney Stedt.
Westerhaus plans to study Communications at the U.
Utah Hockey would like to welcome Brenna and wish her the absolute best in the upcoming season!
