Salt Lake City, Utah
University of Utah Hockey is pleased to announce the promotion of Hannah Mathews to the role of Assistant Coach for the Women’s program.
Mathews hails from the state of Michigan where she started playing hockey at the age of 3 and continued through college. A graduate of Grand Valley State University, she double majored in Finance and Marketing, while playing 4 years for GVSU’s Women’s Hockey team, another Division 1 Women’s program in the American Collegiate Hockey Association.
Utah Women’s Head Coach Rodney Stedt said, “Coach Mathews has shown her ability to control the room, exacting dedication, along with a vision to bring this team to where we want to go. Promoting her to an Assistant Coach was an easy decision and one that will strengthen our team.”
Mathews joined Utah Hockey in 2023 as the Women’s Defensive Coach.
“Coaching has taught me a lot and pushed me outside of my comfort zone, I still have a lot of learning to do, but that’s what makes it fun,” Mathews said. “Joining Utah Hockey has provided that team community I have missed since leaving college. Playing competitive hockey throughout college is one of my favorite memories and I am thrilled we can help offer that to the women at this university.”
As the women’s program continues to grow, Mathews is looking forward to helping expand Utah’s competitiveness within the ACHA and assisting with making the team one that everyone wants to play for. “With the NHL coming to Utah, I am excited to see how that correlates to the excitement around hockey in general and within the local community,” Mathews said.
Utah Hockey congratulates Hannah on her hard work and wishes her the best in the upcoming season!
