Salt Lake City, Utah
University of Utah Men’s Division 2 Hockey has received a commitment from Forward Alexander Murray for the upcoming 2024-25 season.
Murray started his hockey career playing 4 years of house hockey from the age of 10 to 14. In the spring of his 14u season, he was invited to play travel hockey for the Portland Jr. Winterhawks. This was his first time playing full-contact hockey and where he fell in love with the sport. For the next four years, he played for various teams in the Pacific Northwest starting at the single A level and ending his senior season playing AA.
During his 16u season playing for Sno-King Jr. Thunderbirds, he broke his wrist while playing a game in Salt Lake City. This very well could have been a career-ending injury for him. Instead, the injury only grew his passion for hockey. When he finally was cleared, he knew he wanted to pursue hockey, whether it was in College or Juniors. One of Murray’s biggest accomplishments by far was the game-winning goal he scored in nationals this past season.
“Alex adds a ton of skill and ability to skate with the puck to our exciting forward group this season. We’re excited to see him be a big part of our team in his career here at the U,” said Men’s Division 2 Head Coach Nick Fornelius.
Murray plans to study Business at the U.
Utah Hockey would like to welcome Alexander and wish him the absolute best in the upcoming season!
