Salt Lake City, Utah
The University of Utah Hockey has received a commitment from Defenseman Cole Bisson for the upcoming 2023-24 season.
Cole’s career playing competitive hockey started when he was very young. He began playing for the Jr. Grizzlies organization where he was an assistant captain of the team. After playing for the Grizzlies, he moved on and played for the Utah Regulators in their inaugural year.
Bisson developed a great deal when playing for the Regulators because he learned how to adjust to playing against older kids. They were bigger, faster, and more skilled. He attributes this to some of his ability to play well against opponents that outsize him today.
He went on to play AAA for the Jr. Outliers and then the West Coast Renegades. Throughout the five years spent playing for the Renegades, he was allowed to settle in and find a home with the organization that he was very happy with. During his fourth and fifth years playing for the team, his ambition for hockey was truly sparked. Bisson started training harder and had major success in the times he needed to.
Due to the success of his last year of youth hockey, he was fortunate enough to sign a tender with the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Knights of the US Premier Hockey League National Collegiate Development Conference USPHL NCDC but was moved to play for the Charlotte Rush of the USPHL Elite. His season in Charlotte started off very strong but tapered off very quickly and was traded to the Vernal Oilers, USPHL Premier.
Prospering in Vernal, putting up very good numbers along with moving between teams mid-season made Bisson realize how much he wanted to stay in Utah for college. His youth/junior hockey career ended on a high note with a birth at the USPHL National Tournament and he “couldn’t be happier to get things started at the U.”
“Bisson will be a big addition to our team. He is a smooth-skating defenseman and a fantastic playmaker. Every time you watch him play; he always seems to produce. We are excited to have a player who will come in and immediately make an impact for us,” said Men’s Division 1 Head Coach Morgan Feenie.
Bisson plans to study Financial Planning at the U.
Utah Hockey would like to welcome Cole and wish him the absolute best in the upcoming season!
