Salt Lake City, Utah
The University of Utah Women’s Division 1 Hockey has received a commitment from Forward Halee Smith for the upcoming 2024-25 season.
As a Colorado Native, Smith was always around an ice rink watching her older brother play. She decided to play hockey over soccer at 7 years old and has been hooked ever since. The first team she played on was a boys’ team for the Arvada Hockey Association where her dad was a coach.
Selecting hockey over soccer was a tough choice but she wanted to be like her older brother and hockey was the ticket.
Smith joined a girls’ team, the Lady Roughriders (AA) at 12U where she met some of her best friends. It was while on this team, they won the Tier II USA Hockey National Championship which happened to be in her home state. She also scored her first hat trick, while playing against Wyoming.
She was selected to play for Team Colorado AAA Hockey Club for 2 seasons before graduating from Ralston Valley High School in Arvada, CO.
“Halee is a system player to her core. She is never making the wrong play. She’s always in the right position and it raises everyone’s play around her,” said Women’s Division 1 Head Coach Rodney Stedt.
Smith plans to study Civil Engineering at the U.
Utah Hockey would like to welcome Halee and wish her the absolute best in the upcoming season!
