Salt Lake City, Utah
The University of Utah Hockey has received a commitment from Forward Lydia Huegler for the upcoming 2023-24 season.
Lydia’s interest in hockey began when she was 5 years old and she saw her brother playing hockey with a girl on the ice. She started out playing boy’s hockey for the New Mexico Scorpions and then transitioned to girl’s hockey with the New Mexico Mustangs when she was 8 years old.
Huegler played for the Mustangs and the Ice Wolves simultaneously until she moved to Arizona. In Arizona, she played for Mission and continued to play for them until her second year of high school, when she joined the Arizona Kachinas program. In her last youth season, she played on the 19u Kachinas green where they went to nationals and took second place.
“Lydia is a strong all-around player. She is coming to us from a powerhouse of a program. She has excellent hockey IQ and is able to make great plays in small areas. She will definitely add the depth and skill that we’ve been looking for to our lineup,” said Women’s Division 1 Head Coach Rodney Stedt.
Huegler plans to study Communications at the U.
Utah Hockey would like to welcome Lydia and wish her the absolute best in the upcoming season!
