Salt Lake City, Utah
University of Utah Women’s Division 1 Hockey has received a commitment from Forward MaryKate Schutt for the upcoming 2022-23 season.
MaryKate was born into a hockey family and started skating when she was 5 years old. She grew up watching her brothers play and her dad coach. She played on the HEParks Hockey Club Wolfpack boys travel team at Triphahn Center in Hoffman Estates, Illinois for 6 years, at which time Schutt moved over to the newly created girls program, the Wolverines.
“I’m really looking forward to continuing my hockey career and education in Utah,” says Schutt.
At age 15, Schutt began playing with the Chicago Bruins in Addison, Illinois, where she played on the Elite Girls travel team through her senior year. During high school, she also played on the Barrington Fillies Girls Varsity high school team. She was chosen for the AHAI All-State Team her senior year as well.
“MaryKate continues to surprise and impress us the more her confidence grows. She’s super gritty on all areas of the ice and somehow always finds the back of the net. She’s only begun to tap into her full potential and she’ll reach it with Utah. We can’t wait to see everything she does for this team,” Women’s Division 1 Head Coach Braeden Yeo said.
Schutt plans to study Architecture at the U.
Utah Hockey would like to welcome MaryKate and wish her the absolute best in the upcoming season!
