Salt Lake City, Utah
The University of Utah Hockey has received a commitment from Defensemen Matthew Delany for the upcoming 2023-24 season.
Matthew was born in Delafield, Wisconsin. He grew up playing youth hockey for the Waukesha Warhawks and the Milwaukee Jr. Admirals AAA program.
After his freshman year of high school, he left the Jr. Admirals to go back to high school and play for KMMO Prep. During his senior year, he was fortunate enough to receive the honor of being named Assistant Captain.
Once Delany graduated, he started playing Junior hockey spending his first year and a half playing for the Granite City Lumberjacks in the NA3HL. He got called up to play for the Amarillo Wranglers in the NAHL, which is where he would spend the rest of the season and the beginning of the next season before getting traded to the Minnesota Wilderness. He finished his junior career back with the Lumberjacks and helped the team win a National Championship.
“Matthew is a big addition to our defensive core. His speed, size, and scoring ability make him a threat every time he steps on the ice. We wanted to focus on our defense this off-season and getting Matthew is a massive win for our team,” said Men’s Division 1 Head Coach Morgan Feenie.
Delany plans to study Architecture at the U.
Utah Hockey would like to welcome Matthew and wish him the absolute best in the upcoming season!
