Salt Lake City, Utah
The University of Utah Hockey has received a commitment from Forward Molly Murphy for the upcoming 2023-24 season.
At a young age, Molly started playing hockey recreationally on a pond in rural Utah. At 5 years old her family moved to Pinedale, Wyoming, and joined the Pinedale Hockey Association, playing on the boy’s team and Team Wyoming Girls AA. At the age of 14, I transferred from playing local boys’ hockey to the newly established local girls’ team.
During her junior year of high school, she decided to play hockey at a more competitive level and moved to Denver, Colorado to play for Team Colorado Tier 1 U16 team. Murphy really loved the pace and rigor of Tier 1 hockey and moved to Detroit, Michigan her senior year to play for the Detroit Honeybaked Hockey Club Tier 1 u19 team. In the winter of her senior year, she returned to Pinedale to finish high school and her hockey season with her hometown team.
One of the highlights of her hockey career is being chosen for the 2022 16/17 National Player Development Camp in St. Cloud, Minnesota. She has enjoyed playing hockey at all different levels and really looks forward to playing for the University of Utah and competing at the ACHA D1 level.
Off the ice, she enjoys spending time with her parents and two sisters, hiking and backpacking in the mountains, snow skiing, and spending time at the lake in the summer.
“Molly has a lot of experience playing hockey at a high level and it truly shows. Her skill set will help her be an effective player day in and day out. She’s a true playmaker who isn’t afraid to make the opposition pay,” said Women’s Division 1 Head Coach Rodney Stedt.
Murphy plans to study Political Science at the U.
Utah Hockey would like to welcome Molly and wish her the absolute best in the upcoming season
