PAC-8 Power Rankings #9
We are down to the final week of the PAC-8 season and a lot is on the line this weekend as we look at the last power rankings before we know which teams will face off in LA in two weeks.
1.(1) #6 Utah Utes (19-5-1, 9-0-1 PAC-8) 2nd in Conference
Last Week: 2-0 (1-0 forfeit vs Washington St, 1-0 forfeit vs Washington St)? This Week: Home vs USC (Fri.), Home vs USC (Sat.)
The Utes picked up four points this weekend after the Cougars had to cancel the weekend against the Utes. That means that Utah only needs to win once this weekend against USC to clinch the 1 seed at the PAC-8 Championships.
2.(2) #14 Oregon Ducks (17-4-1, 10-2 PAC-8) 1st in Conference
Last Week: 3-1 (Win vs Boise St 7-6, Win vs Boise St 9-1, Win vs Cal 9-4, Loss vs Cal 5-7)?This Week: SJSU Showcase (#7 San Jose St, #15 UNLV, #10 San Diego St, #12 Texas A&M)
The Ducks had the chance to put the pressure on Utah but opened the door when they lost at home for the first time in the conference this year against Cal. But more pressing issues are on the line this week. The Ducks HAVE to have a good showing this week in San Jose if they want a shot a making Regionals.
3.(3) Washington Huskies (12-9-1, 6-3-1 PAC-8) 3rd in Conference
Last Week: 2-1 (Loss vs #10 SDSU 3-8, Win vs USC 9-5, Win vs USC 8-2) ?This Week: Home vs UCLA (Fri.), Home vs UCLA (Sat.)
The Huskies picked up a pair of much needed conference wins against USC last week which moves them to third in the PAC-8 standings. UW controls their own destiny this weekend, in if they beat the Bruins they will go t the PAC-8’s as the 3 seed and most likely get a chance to get revenge against the Ducks.
4.(4) UCLA Bruins (7-10, 6-4 PAC-8) 4th in Conference
Last Week: 0-2 (Loss vs CS Northridge 2-8, Loss vs CS Northridge 4-7)?This Week: @ Washington (Fri.), @ Washington (Sat.)
The Bruins have been gaining momentum in the conference and can now make it to the PAC-8’s with a pair of wins against Washington this weekend. On the flip side, one loss will see them on the outside looking in to the playoffs.
5.(6) Cal Golden Bears (7-8-1, 2-6-1 PAC-8) 5th in conference
Last Week: 1-1 (Loss @ Oregon 4-9, Win @ Oregon 8-6)?This Week: Bye Week
Cal did something last week that no one else has done this year. Beat the Ducks at home. The PAC-8 schedule is done for the Bears and they are off until their season finale against Santa Clara on February 2nd.
6.(5) USC Trojans (6-15-1, 2-7 PAC-8) 6th in Conference
Last Week: 0-2 (Loss vs Washington 5-9, Loss vs Washington 2-8)?This Week: @ #6 Utah (Fri.), @ #6 Utah (Sat.)
The past two months have been rough for the Trojans, going 2-7-1 since November. The can try and get some momentum for the PAC-8’s with a good showing on the road against Utah this weekend.

Last Week: 0-2 (Forfeit vs #6 Utah 0-1, Forfeit vs #6 Utah 0-1) ?This Week: Bye Week
The Cougars have run into some financial issues which has led to the cancellations of games against Utah and Cal for Wazzu. They’ll now be off until February when they are scheduled to play Idaho.
