University of Utah Men’s Division 2 Hockey has received a commitment from Defenseman Shaun Houk for the upcoming 2022-23 season.
Shaun was born in Tampa, Florida, where he began learning to skate and play hockey at 4 years old. With over 10 years of competitive hockey in Florida with the Florida Everblades, Florida Eels, Orlando Knights, and Tampa Scorpions (gaining his first state championship title), his family moved to North Carolina, where he gained his second state championship title and began his first Junior hockey season with the Carolina Eagles. As a rookie in the USPHL and the third youngest in the league, he was awarded USPHL Player of the Month and selected to the USPHL Defensive All-Star team for the 2018-19 season after achieving .5 points per game and strongly impacting the defensive core for the Eagles.
Later on, Houk transitioned into virtual high school for his final 2 years while continuing the next 3 years of his junior career with the Philadelphia Revolution in the EHL, Richmond Generals in USPHL, and finished with the Philadelphia Little Flyers back in the EHL and making a run in the Frozen Finals.
When he is home during the summers, he works as a USA Hockey official and trains Jiu Jitsu at a local gym.
“We’re elated to add Shaun into the fold for our team this upcoming season. His experience at the Junior level and hockey IQ on the backend will be a big asset for us,” Men’s Division 2 Head Coach Nick Fornelius said.
Houk plans to study Nursing at the U.
Utah Hockey would like to welcome Shaun and wish him the absolute best in the upcoming season!
