November 21, 2024
Salt Lake City, Utah
This weekend, the Utah Hockey Men’s Division 2 team kicks the Beehive Showcase with a four-day stretch of games versus Northern Arizona University, Montana State University, University of Providence and University of Montana.
The Skatin’ Utes are coming off of a loss versus Weber State last weekend, where the Wildcats beat the Utes 3-2. The Utes did bounce back for a pair of wins versus Boise State on Thursday and Friday. With finals of 6-2 and 4-3.
The first matchup for Utah will be tonight at 7:30pm MDT. at the Salt Lake County Sports Complex versus Northern Arizona University. The Lumberjacks and the Utes have not yet faced each other this season, with the Jacks knocking the Utes out of the playoffs in February. Northern Arizona currently sits ranked 5th in the West Coast Hockey Conference with 11 points in their league. Utah takes the advantage in this match, as they currently sit at 3rd in the Mountain West Collegiate Hockey League with 22 points.
Game two for the Utes this weekend is up against Montana State University, a familiar face for Utah Hockey, on Friday, Nov. 22 at 7:30pm. MDT. The Bobcats are also in the MWCHL, dominating the league with 16 wins and a 1st place rank so far this season. The Utes have faced them twice before this season, however, neither matchup was fruitful for the Utes. They collected losses both times on the Bobcats home rink, making this one of the toughest games of the weekend for the Utes.
In the latter half of the long stint of games, Utah will face the University of Providence Argonauts on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 1:00pm. MDT. While all the other matches this weekend will all be at Salt Lake County Sports Complex, this game will be at the Park City Ice Arena, which will be new ice for both teams. The Argonauts and Utes have also met face-to-face before, with their last clash being on Oct. 5 of this year. The Utes collected a win versus Providence, scoring six goals compared to their three, but the Argonauts remain ranked 2nd in the MWCHL, one seat above Utah.
The fourth and final matchup for the Utes is back on home ice against the University of Montana at 12:00pm. MDT. The Utes and the Grizzlies haven’t faced off since Sep. 30 of last year, where Montana took the win 5-1. This will be an exciting and important rematch for the Utes, considering Utah and Montana are currently tied for 3rd in the MWCHL with 22 points each.
Broadcasts for each game will be available and streamed live on the Utah Hockey Youtube channel. There will be no broadcast available for Utah versus University of Providence, but you can follow along by tuning into the Utah Men’s Division 2 Hockey Instagram where the scoring will be continually updated.
