Salt Lake City, UT
The Utah Skatin’ Utes have broken yet another club record.
The first ACHA West Ranking was released today and the Utes are third in the first official ranking that will help decide who will go to Nationals at the end of the season.
In a reverse point system, the Utes received 24 points in the poll, which included two of the eleven possible first-place votes.
Topping the ranking is the Arizona State Sun Devil Elite team, that received 10 points and the other nine first-place votes. In second is ASU’s neighbor to the north in Northern Arizona who had 22 points, just two ahead of Utah.
After Utah are the other two Utah schools with Utah State and Weber State rounding out the top five. The Aggies and Wildcats are separated by three points with 44 and 47 points respectively.
San Diego State, Texas A&M, Loyola Marymount, San Jose State, and Denver round out the top ten.
On the outside looking in, North Texas is the first team out of the top ten at 11. They are followed by Cal State Fullerton at number 12.
At the 13th and 14th spots are fellow PAC-8 opponents Arizona State’s PAC-8 team and Washington, who are four points apart from each other.
Montana Tech rounds out the top 15 with Dallas Baptist, Boise State, Cal State Northridge, and Cal State Long Beach all receiving votes as well.
The number three ranking is the highest ranking the Utes have ever had in club history. The Utes were ranked 5th the previous two years, which was the current record. The two first-place votes is also a first for the club, as it’s the first time the Utes have ever received a first place vote. View the national rankings here.
The next ranking will come out in two weeks after the Utes take on Oregon at home with a chance to clinch the PAC-8 North Division with a pair of wins.
