Salt Lake City, Utah
The University of Utah Women’s Division 1 team (W1) has completed training camp for 2025-26 season.
This year’s training camp occurred from August 12-15, 2025 in McCall, Idaho. The annual event is scheduled prior to the first day of classes at the University of Utah, which began today.
The Skatin’ Utes will enter their sixth season (2019, 2021-2025) playing at the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) W1 level.
The Utes will continue their membership in the Women’s Western Collegiate Hockey League (WWCHL) and is focused on earning both their first Western Women’s Collegiate Hockey League (WWCHL) Conference Championship, and a birth to the 2026 ACHA National Championships in St Louis, Missouri.
Utah W1 graduated three seniors last season including Captain Halle Hansen, Assistant Captain Alexandra Bye, and Defenseman Valerie Stevenson.
All three will surely be missed and the incoming rookies will have considerable skates to fill. With the smaller roster size last season, Utah W1 Head Coach Rodney Stedt recruited 12 rookies to add to the team.
The Utes have an impressive schedule this season, with highlighted opponents including the reigning ACHA Women’s Division 1 National Champions Liberty University along with 30 regular season games (16 home, 14 away).
Utah Defenseman Addison Greenwood shared her thoughts on the training camp experience, “I have loved the past two years here and the highlight of each season is going up to McCall and skating with the girls for the first time. The incoming freshman have been awesome and bonded so well with us. It’s like they’ve been with us for an entire season already and not just a few days. I am very excited to see the season unfold and watch these girls grow into amazing student athletes. I am so grateful for this team and can’t believe I am so lucky to have so many girls supporting me throughout my next few years here at the U.
The season will open at home against newly minted ACHA W1 member University of New Mexico on September 26-27, 2025 at the Salt Lake City Sports Complex.
Morgan Lavally, second year defenseman, mentioned, “I think this year’s training camp was amazing with the team culture and having team bonding activities. Training camp is better now with the amount of girls there are and the types of team bonding we do on and off the ice. It all benefits us and makes us better in every aspect of life and hockey life. This year we have a very deep team with the rookies we have coming in. The roster is full and there is lots of talent and potential for all. With the amazing depth this team holds this year, we have the best opportunity of having a very successful year. This year is going to be the best and more to come when season starts in September, EVERYONE better watch out for the Women’s D1 Team!”

MaryKate Schutt, “Training camp was a lot of hard work and fun. The coaches push us hard to make us better and it pays off. On and off the ice training camp was a great opportunity to bond with the team and especially to get to know the new rookies. After working hard on the ice, we relax and have fun on the beach and in the lake as a team. I believe we have an amazing team that is competitive and eager to put their all in to compete all the way through nationals.”
Utah Hockey Season tickets went on sale on Friday, August 1, 2025.
Utah Junior Kamden Harris mentioned, “The 2025 training camp exceeded my expectations. The team is bringing higher intensity, speed, and competition every season. Camp is a great opportunity to build connects between all three teams. This year we really honed in on drills that mentally and physically challenged us in preparation for the upcoming season. Utah Hockey’s future is looking very bright because our rookies not only blend well with our team but they also have a lot of skill to contribute.
