W1 set to face UMASS this weekend

The Utah Hockey Women’s Division 1 team will take on the University of Massachusetts, Amherst Minutewomen this weekend for a two-game home stand. The Utes, currently sitting with a record of 10-8 in the season, and will be looking to secure two final wins for the year.
Going into their matchup against UMASS, the Skatin’ Utes are coming off of a tough weekend against Midland University. The Midland Warriors secured all three wins (5-1, 6-0, 5-2) on the Utes home ice at the Salt Lake County Sports Complex, and while the Utes were able to break past the defense and score, they were unable to obtain a victory. On the other hand, UMASS is entering into the game against Utah holding both a win and a loss from their most recent double header against University of Rhode Island.
When comparing the two opponents, Utah has the experience advantage, having played 18 games this season compared to UMASS’s 12. UMASS is currently ranked fourth in the Women’s Division 1 Independent League, while Utah boasts a third place ranking in much bigger and more competitive league, Western Women’s Collegiate Hockey League. On top of that, while the rankings are similar, Utah has obtained 7 more wins through the season than UMASS, proving themselves to have a higher win percentage than the Minutewomen.
Two wins this weekend for the Skatin’ Utes would mark 12 wins for them so far throughout the season, and would leave them on a high for their month long stint of no games. After this match, Utah takes a break from playing until Feb. 7, where they will play Denver University away in a double-header. Soon after, the Utes will play there final home games of the season on Feb. 14-15 against Grand Canyon University.
Utah’s final home games of 2024 will be Dec. 6 at 7:30PM. MDT and Dec. 7 at 4:30PM. MDT at the Skatin’ Utes home rink.
