Salt Lake City, Utah
University of Utah Hockey has received a commitment from Forward Jesse Stevenson for the upcoming 2021-22 season.
Jesse was born Jackson, Wyoming, where he first learned to skate when he was 5 years old. He always loved hockey, but when he moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho, in 2010, he had started to lose interest in the game, taking a year off and almost quitting half way through his 6th grade season. Fortunately, something in his gut told he couldn’t stop playing, so he didn’t.
For the next two of years, he only played scrimmages until his friend convinced him to join the local travel team. He played his first real season of hockey that year and that’s when he really got into the sport. He scored a handful of goals his first season, but it was being a part of the team and experiencing the team dynamic work that made him want to keep playing.
Stevenson’s freshman year of high school he moved back to Jackson where he played for the Jackson Moose Bantam B team. He made more progress in one season than he had ever made before, scoring his first-ever hat trick to bring the Wyoming B State semifinal game to overtime where they won in a shootout. From there, he joined his high school team where for the next three years, he progressed more each year. His senior year, he was assistant captain having the chance to show he was a leader not only on the ice, but off the ice as well. He also received All-State for Forwards his senior year.
“We’re excited to have Jesse as part of our team for the upcoming season. His offensive abilities will be a great addition to our team and we expect him to help us add to our scoring throughout the season,” Men’s Division 2 Head Coach Nick Fornelius said.
“I am looking forward to attending the University of Utah and I am also very excited to be able to keep playing the sport that I love so much. Salt Lake City has always been my favorite city for as long as I can remember, and now getting to attend school there and play hockey. All I can say is that I couldn’t be more stoked on my decision to attend the U this fall,” Stevenson said.
Outside of hockey, Stevenson is a very avid mountain biker, skier, and Crossfitter.
Utah Hockey would like to welcome Jesse and wish him the absolute best in the upcoming season!
