W1 squad to face Air Force at home
January 28, 2022
Salt Lake City, Utah
After being away from competition for just over two months, the Utah Women’s Division 1 team is ready to hit the ice again, inviting the Air Force Academy Falcons to Salt Lake City. The Utes’ two-game series against the Air Force Academy will serve as the first two games of six straight Utah W1 will play at home, ahead of the WWCHL Championships. On the home stretch of the regular season, both teams know how important it is to compete at their highest levels of play.
Utah Hockey’s Women’s squad, as previously acknowledged, have been away from the ice since their two-game series back in November against Grand Canyon University. They Utes fell to the Antelopes in both games of the series. Since their 2-0 start to the season, the Skatin’ Utes have struggled, notching only one in the win column in the last 7 games, placing the Utes at a 3-6 season record. As the postseason approaches, Utah W1 will rely on their top playmakers: Gracie Capps (5 goals/6 assists), Halle Hansen (7 goals/4 assists), and team-leading scorer, Grace Cruikshank (8 goals/5 assists).
The Air Force Academy Falcons have struggled thus far this season, currently winless at 0-7. In their two of their previous matches, the Falcons suffered crushing defeat by the hands of the Arizona State University Sun Devils, 0-16 and 0-26. Having scored only 4 goals all season, the Air Force squad is still pushing to develop chemistry on both the offensive and defensive sides of the puck. Headed to Salt Lake City to play in hostile territory, the Falcons will try to steal their first win of the season on the road.
The Falcons, having only played one game since the holiday break, and the Utes, now returning from the intermission, are eager to hit the ice once again. Both organizations have been training as regularly as the pandemic allows, and are prepared for this two-game series at the Salt Lake City Sports Complex (SLCSP).
The games will take place on Friday, puck drop at 4:30 p.m., and Saturday, puck drop at 1:30 p.m. MST. The SLCSP is located at 645 S, Guardsman Way, Salt Lake City, UT 84108.
