Salt Lake City, Utah
University of Utah Hockey has received a commitment from Forward April Walton for the upcoming 2021-22 season.
April was born in Bountiful, Utah and has lived there her entire life. She always wanted to be an athlete, but could not find a sport that she loved until she was thirteen years old. Her older brother started playing hockey. She went to many of his games and she loved watching it.
After a few months of learning to transition from figure skating to hockey skating, she reached out to the team manager of the Bountiful Braves with Bountiful High School. After playing in her first game, she was hooked. Walton started playing with recreation girl’s teams and during her senior year, she had the opportunity to play with the Utah Lady Grizzlies.
“I always knew that I wanted to keep playing competitive hockey after high school and I am so thrilled to have the opportunity to play hockey for the University of Utah,” Walton said.
“April really blew us away at tryouts. She has so much work ethic and is absolutely determined to help her team. Her commitment and love for the game are apparent and she’s the exact type of player a coach wants on their team. We are really excited to see her develop with Utah Hockey,” said Women’s Division 1 Head Coach Braeden Yeo.
Off the ice, Walton loves hiking, kayaking, surfing and drawing.
She is planning to study Nursing at the U.
Utah Hockey would like to welcome April and wish her the absolute best in the upcoming season!
