Salt Lake City, Utah
University of Utah Hockey has received a commitment from Forward Braxton Porter for the upcoming 2021-22 season.
This true freshman is a hometown kid, born and raised in the Salt Lake Valley. Braxton was destined for ice sports coming from a family of elite speed skaters, though he was the first to use his skating skills for hockey. He started skating at the age of 5 at the Utah Olympic Oval. After playing 9 seasons as an Oval Dawg, he began playing high school hockey.
While playing for Bingham High School in South Jordan, Utah, he served as an assistant captain his junior year where he helped lead his team to a third-place finish in state playoffs. He was elected team captain his senior year (2020-2021 season). He completed his junior and senior years with a combined points total of 55. Porter was selected as a state all-star 3 of his high school seasons. He also had the opportunity to play on the Utah High School Selects his junior and senior years.
“We’re looking forward to having Braxton on the team this year. His offensive skill set and work ethic will be a very valuable weapon for us on the ice,” Men’s Division 2 Head Coach Nick Fornelius said.
He has been a Skatin’ Utes fan since birth stating, “not a lot of people from my local programs get the opportunity to move on to the next level. I am very thankful and grateful for Utah Hockey giving me this opportunity to pursue my dreams and continue playing hockey at a higher level.”
Porter also likes hiking, fishing, golfing, but hockey is his true love.
Porter will study Engineering at the U.
Utah Hockey would like to welcome Braxton and wish him the absolute best in the upcoming season!
