Salt Lake City, Utah
University of Utah Men’s Division 1 Hockey has received a commitment from Forward Erik Gibboney for the upcoming 2022-23 season.
As a Salt Lake City, Utah native, Erik grew up playing hockey with various youth teams. At the age of 16, he moved to Colorado to play for the Colorado Springs Tigers. After playing for 3 seasons, he graduated high school and moved to Virginia to play junior hockey for the Hampton Roads Whalers. After spending a year in Virginia, he moved to Montana to play his final year of juniors for the Helena Bighorns. “I’m very excited to continue to play hockey while going to school at the U,” says Gibboney.
Away from the rink, he looks forward to being able to ski and mountain bike around Salt Lake.
“Gibby is a smooth skating forward with impressive hands. He has high hockey IQ and great playmaking abilities. He is patient with the puck and often finds himself in high opportune scoring chances. He will be a great addition to our specialty teams next year as well. We are excited to welcome Erik to the Utah Hockey family,” Men’s Division 1 Head Coach Morgan Feenie said.
Gibboney is undecided regarding his academic focus at the U.
Utah Hockey would like to welcome Erik and wish him the absolute best in the upcoming season!
