Salt Lake City, Utah
University of Utah Hockey has received a commitment from Defenseman Giustino Bortoluzzi for the upcoming 2021-22 season.
Giustino was born in San Diego, California. His father put him in his first pair of skates about the same time he learned how to walk and has been playing ever since.
At 6 years old, he joined his first mini mite league and has been on a travel team for San Diego playing teams across the country.
Bortoluzzi joined the San Diego Central Cathedral Jets, where he was the assistant captain for 2 years. In his last high school year, the Jets were slated to head to San Jose, CA for state playoffs, but unfortunately, COVID-19 pandemic cancelled the remainder of their season.
“We expect Giustino to excel both in our defensive zone and as an offensive asset in the attacking zone as well this season. His size and skill will be a fantastic addition in our system and our goal to add to the win column this year,” Men’s Division 2 Head Coach Nick Fornelius said.
Hockey has been an important part of Bortoluzzi’s life since he was just 2 years old. It has given him fond memories with his teammates and taught him great things about leadership. “I am thankful for the opportunity to play for the Utes and grow in my love and passion for the sport. I’ve met a lot of my lifetime friends through hockey and I’m excited to make more this year,” said Bortoluzzi.
Utah Hockey would like to welcome Giustino and wish him the absolute best in the upcoming season!
