Salt Lake City, Utah
University of Utah Hockey has received a commitment from Forward Olivia Howell for the upcoming 2021-22 season.
Olivia hails from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho and credits her first year of playing hockey to her twin brother. She grew up playing with him on co-ed teams in both Coeur D’ Alene and Spokane, Washington. After a few years of playing boys hockey, she joined her first girl’s team, the Missoula Lady Bruins. She loved playing in Montana and attributes a lot of her love for the game to that team.
She started playing for the Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy, which is a part of the Canadian Sports School Hockey League. Playing for the CDA Hockey Academy in the CSSHL really gave her the drive to want to play hockey at a higher level.
“Both the girls who surrounded me and the coaches who supported me, provided me with the tools necessary to get to the next level and I am so stoked for that opportunity to be at University of Utah,” Howell said.
“We knew pretty fast we wanted Olivia on our team. She is a versatile player who can do well in any position and she is both strong and smart on the ice. Her positive attitude will be a major asset to the locker room and her commitment to her team is easy to notice. We are thrilled to have her and excited to see what she does next season,” Women’s Division 1 Head Coach Braeden Yeo said.
Howell plans to study Health and Kinesiology at the U.
Utah Hockey would like to welcome Olivia and wish her the absolute best in the upcoming season!
