Salt Lake City, UT
University of Utah Hockey has received a commitment from Defense Samantha McCain for the upcoming 2019-20 season.
McCain joins the Utes from Casper, Wyoming, and is a graduate of Natrona County High School. She comes from a hockey family and developed her love of the game from her older brother; who exposed her to ice arenas, traveling, and the sport of Hockey. She started skating once her feet were big enough to fit in skates, and has played ever since.
During the 2018-19 season she played with the Casper Oilers 18U boys, Park County Ice Cats 19U girls, and Team Wyoming 19U girls. Samantha won the 19U A Wyoming State Championship with The Park County Ice Cats in 2019 .
Samantha also enjoys helping coach the youngest players in her local organization and plans to match those efforts for the girls organizations in Utah.
“Samantha is that perfect combination of a workhorse and positivity that we’ve been searching for to represent our school and program. She is the type of player that will undoubtedly serve as our backbone within our defensive structure. Her hockey sense and situational adaptability shine brightly in all zones of play and we are excited to adapt those skills within our program,” said Head Coach Marietti.
McCain is still exploring her academic options at the U.
Utah Hockey would like to welcome Samantha and wish her the absolute best in the upcoming season!
