Utah W1 and Colorado State meet for Senior Weekend
February 11, 2021
Salt Lake City, Utah
Utah Hockey Division 1 Senior Weekend has arrived, bringing an exciting two-game series against Colorado State University to conclude the Women’s Division 1 regular season schedule. This final weekend of the 2021-22 season for Utah W1, will provide the team with one final opportunity to lock in in terms of chemistry and skillfulness before traveling to Phoenix, AZ next weekend for the WWCHL Championships.
The Skatin’ Utes W1 squad are winners of 3 of their last four games, following a weekend sweep of the Air Force Academy Falcons, and a split series with the Arizona State Sun Devils.
The Utes, who were the underdogs of the ASU series, claimed victory in Game 1 against the Sun Devils in an absolute nail-biter, 3-2. Utah’s Katie Plyer and Alexandra Bye contributed to the victory effort with a goal each in Game 1, before Skatin’ Ute Halle Hansen broke the tie, scoring on an assist from Gracie Capps, 17:10 into the 3rd period. Game 2 of the hard-fought series produced a stalemate between the two squads, as the match was scoreless through the first three periods, before the Utes suffered defeat in the 3-on-3 OT period, 1-0. Despite falling to the Sun Devils in Game 2, the Skatin’ Utes displayed a competitive and refined level of play, which they will hope to call on in the upcoming series against Colorado State to improve upon their 6-6-1 regular season record.
The Colorado State University Rams, have suffered defeat most recently by way of a two-game series sweep against the University of Colorado. CSU has experienced many ups and downs this season, currently sitting at 6-9-1 for the regular season. In their trip to Salt Lake City, facing an unfamiliar foe in the form of the University of Utah, the Rams will look to spoil the Utah W1 squad’s Senior Weekend by stealing a game, perhaps even the series, on the road.
Both squads are coming up on the end of the regular season, and have taken into account how important a strong finish is as they approach the postseason. The highly-anticipated season-closing weekend series will take place at the Salt Lake City Sports Complex, located at 645 S, Guardsman Way, Salt Lake City, UT 84108. The Utes’ W1 Senior Weekend games will be on Friday and Saturday, preceding the M1 Senior Weekend games, with the puck will dropping at 4:30 p.m. MST. on both days.
