Utah W1 to host Last Weekend of Games with Two Themed Games

February 12, 2025
Salt Lake City, Utah
The Utah Women’s Hockey Team has been making waves since it’s inception in 2019, and all eyes are on them this weekend as they host Grand Canyon University with two themed games.
Friday’s 4:30pm matinee is being deemed “The Galentine’s Game” as it coincides with Valentine’s Day, and features a partnership with the Utah Alpuckas and the Utah Howl.
The Utah Alpuckas are a local women’s rookie-league team who has gained fame on Instagram for their hilarious off-ice antics and dance moves. Players from the Alpuckas and their local tournament team affiliate, the Utah Howl, are volunteering their time to host games, activities, and freebies for guests of the game.
Melissa Mossberg, VP of Girls Hockey for the Utah Amateur Hockey Association, has invited local girls hockey teams to attend, and the groups will also be promoting upcoming USA Hockey Learn to Play day on February 22nd, to encourage more girls to start playing hockey.
So many partnerships coming together makes this the most unique game of the year! The W1 team will host an autograph session after the game, and fans are thrilled to finally get the chance to meet these talented student-athletes.
Utah Hockey is also proud to have an all-female broadcasting team in Stevie Shaughnessey and Kelly Quiel, and attendees of Friday’s game will have the opportunity to meet them in-person between periods. Other women in the hockey community here in Salt Lake City are also beginning to pledge their attendance, and Utah Hockey is excited at the opportunity to host so many incredible women.
Saturday’s game is nothing short of spectacular as W1 hosts Grand Canyon University again at 7:30pm, and the seniors will be honored as they skate the ice at home for their final home game with a University of Utah jersey.
Utah Hockey is continuously impressed with the level of the rigor, leadership, and talent these seniors have shown, and their absence will be felt by all involved. We wish them luck in their future endeavors!
Tickets for both games are available online and at the door.
