Salt Lake City, Utah
University of Utah Hockey has received a commitment from Defenseman Grace Kerig for the upcoming 2021-22 season.
As a Salt Lake City native, Grace started playing hockey at the age of 10. She joined the Lady Lightning, where she was coached by Utes former Head Coach Morgan Marietti at the U12 level.
After her Lady Lightning years, she played for Lady Grizzlies and the Salt Lake Stars. Last season she played for Utah High School Hockey’s East High School Division 2 team as well as some tournaments with the Golden Eagles.
“I am very excited to play for the University of Utah Women’s team in the upcoming season,” Kerig said.
“Grace is the epitome of the saying ‘it’s not about the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog.’ She is so solid defensively but can skate the puck coast to coast almost whenever she wants to. She has the puck-hungry mindset we are searching for—anytime she’s in a race or a battle, she ends up with the puck,” Women’s Division 1 Head Coach Braeden Yeo said.
Kerig is undecided on what she will be studying at the U.
Utah Hockey would like to welcome Grace and wish her the absolute best in the upcoming season!
