Utah Hockey announces 2022 Women’s Division 1 Schedule
August 22, 2022
Salt Lake City, Utah
The Utah Hockey Women’s Division 1 program has released its 2022-23 season schedule, which features 12 home games and the first Women’s Beehive Showcase. The Utes are scheduled to play conference games against Arizona State University, University of Colorado, Grand Canyon University, and Colorado State University in their third season as members of the Western Women’s Collegiate Hockey League (WWCHL).
Their 24 regular-season games include a mid-October swing through Michigan, where the Utes face-off against the University of Michigan, Davenport University, and Aquinas College of the Central Collegiate Women’s Hockey Association (CCWHA). The calendar also includes non-conference games against the University of Wyoming and Montana State University.
Among the upcoming season’s hottest match-ups will be the September/October away series at Arizona State, who finished last year ranked 1st in the WWCHL and 11th in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) W1. During last year’s regular season, the Utes split a hard-fought home series with a 1-0 overtime loss and 2-3 win.
During November 17-19, 2022, Utah Hockey will host the first Women’s Beehive Showcase. This invitational tournament brings in some of the top women’s ice hockey programs from around the country, including the recently added Montana State University, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and University of Michigan.
The Utah Hockey W1 program was founded as a member of the WWCHL and ACHA for the 2019-20 season. The team finished well enough during their inaugural season to qualify for the post-season WWCHL Championship tournament. Following a one-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Utes finished out their second season ranked 20th in the ACHA and again, qualified for the 2022 WWCHL tournament.
This season’s 2023 WWCHL Championship will be hosted by the University of Colorado, in Boulder, CO, on February 17-19, 2023. The winner of the WWCHL tournament qualifies for the ACHA W1 National Championships, held March 16-20, 2023, at the New England Sports Center (NESC) in Marlborough, MA. The NESC is home ice for the Providence Bruins, the Boston Bruins’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate.
ACHA Women’s Division 1 (W1) is a competitive non-varsity league for collegiate ice hockey programs located in the United States that are not affiliated with the National College Athletic Association (NCAA). ACHA women’s ice hockey includes Divison 1 and Division 2 programs. Visit the ACHA website to learn more and view a map of ACHA-affiliated programs.
